PEEP aims to support families with their children's early learning in an enjoyable way. Groups are for parents/carers and their children. There are two types of group: standard PEEP groups and PEEP Plus groups

Storytime in a 1s group

PEEP group sessions generally include the following core activities:

  • a focus from the Learning Together folder (eg 'Babies making choices' or 'Living with television')
  • songs and rhymes
  • a story time
  • activities with the children
  • a talking time for adults (to share experiences and ideas)
  • book-sharing and the opportunity to borrow books and play packs (or information about where and how to do so)
  • ideas and scrap materials for families to take home to make things.

Adults do not need to read or write during a PEEP group. They need not even join in during talking time or singing until they feel comfortable doing so. The video 'Beginning with PEEP' shows scenes from group sessions. Each new group will agree its own ground rules, for everyone's comfort and protection. These are often based on those in the downloadable document below.

PEEP groups are often:

  • held in local venues (eg health centres, schools, children's centres)
  • run by a group leader and an assistant or co-leader
  • run for one to two hours, once a week
  • attended by up to a dozen families
  • free.
