European Early Childhood Education Association (EECERA) conference: Prague, August 2007.
Alison Street and Sally Smith from PEEP collaborated with Peter Hannon from the University of Sheffield to present a self-organised symposium entitled  ‘Supporting parents as children’s first educators: theory in practice.’ They presented research findings on how the ORIM framework (opportunities, recognition, interaction and modelling) has been used in this way, both in the REAL project in Sheffield (Peter Hannon) and in the PEEP Room to Play project (Sally Smith). Alison Smith then presented findings about maternal singing to babies. They discussed the implications for ways of supporting parents’ interactions and recognition of their role in enhancing communication and early learning.
